Inscribed pamphlet signed: "Katheine Milhous/ 1973" in black ink. 8 pages, 7x9. Titled "About Katherine Milhous"..."Inscribed especially & with pleasure for J.L. Pruett ~ and with best wishes to each and every student". Katherine Milhous (1894-1977)was an American artist, illustrator and writer. Best known as the author and illustrator of The Egg Treefor which she won the 1951 Caldecott Medal for U.S. picture book illustration. Born into a Pennsylvania Quaker family active in Philadelphia's printing industry, her work has been exhibited at the 1939 New York World's Fair and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. From 1935-1940 she was a supervisor for the Philadelphia Federal Art Project, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, creating posters promoting Pennsylvania, hers well-known for their familiar Pennsylvania Dutch designs into her posters. Toned. Corners rounded. Slightly torn along binding. Otherwise, fine condition.
