The Broadway and screen actress signs her name in black ink
Autograph sentiment signed: "Yours Truly/Kathleen Clifford" in black ink. 4¾x2¼. American actress Kathleen Clifford (1887-1962) made her name on vaudeville and the stage (she had 11 performing credits on Broadway between 1902 and 1916, mostly in musicals) before moving to films in 1917. She was famed for her male impersonations and was often billed as "The Smartest Chap in Town" - a skill that, for some reason, never made it into her movies. In all, Clifford had 13 movies to her credit between 1917 and 1932, including her screen debut, the serial Who is Number One?, and her sole soundie credit The Bride's Bereavement: or, The Snake in the Grass (1932). She also wrote a book for children, The Enchanted Glen: Never Trod By the Feet of Men, in 1945. Toned. Lightly soiled. Edges irregular. Small tear at bottom edge, not near signature. Mounting residue on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
