This check was made out in the amount of $60. American silent film actress Kathleen Clifford (1887-1962) made her name on vaudeville and the stage before moving to films in 1917. She had 11 performing credits on Broadway between 1902 and 1916, mostly in musicals. She was famed for her male impersonations and was often billed as "The Smartest Chap in Town". In all, Clifford had 13 movies to her credit between 1917 and 1932, including her screen debut, the serial Who is Number One?, and her sole soundie credit The Bride's Bereavement (1932). Later in life, she wrote a book for children, The Enchanted Glen: Never Trod By the Feet of Men (1945), and opened up a flower shop in Hollywood, California.
