Depicted with an American flag and a model space shuttle. Kathryn Thornton (b. 1952 in
Montgomery, Alabama) first joined NASA in 1984 after earning a Ph.D. in physics from the
University of Virginia. Her 975 hours in space were earned while on space flights STS-33
(1989), STS-49 (1992), STS-61 (1993), and STS-73 (1995). The latter mission was her
longest: she spent 15 days in space, orbiting the Earth 256 times! After she left NASA in 1996,
she returned to her alma mater to teach. Fine condition.
