KATIE BOYLE
Head and shoulders image (3½x5½) of the Anglo-Italian actress and TV
personality
Photograph signed: "All good wishes/Kati Boyle". B/w,
3½x5½. Katie Boyle (b. 1926), the daughter of an Italian marquis,
arrived in Britain as a model in 1946, earning supporting roles in several films
of the 1950s, billed most often as Catherine Boyle. Having doubled as a BBC
continuity announcer in the 1950s, she became a TV personality in the 1960s,
appearing on panel game shows and as presenter for the Eurovision Song Contests.
She had her own radio program, Katie and Friends, and wrote an advice
column (in British usage, an "agony aunt"). She married, successively,
Richard Boyle (9th Earl of Shannon), racehorse owner Greville Baylis, and
theatre impresario Sir Peter Saunders (d. 2002). One biographer of Queen
Elizabeth II claims that Boyle had a longstanding relationship with Prince
Phillip in the 1950s. Boyle has written three books, one a collection of her
advice columns, one on animal rescue, and the third an autobiography. Corners
creased. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
