Document signed "Kay Fletcher" in blue ink. Blue ink notations in unknown hand. 2 pages, 6½x9, 1 sheet, front and verso. With 6½x3¼ initiation fee receipt carbon copy with perforated left edge stapled at top edge. Feb. 24, 1956. Membership form for the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. According to this document, Fletcher was an actress who was scheduled to appear in a 1956 episode of Truth or Consequences. The Emmy-winning game show Truth or Consequences got its start on radio (1940-1957) before moving to TV (1950-78 and 1987-1988). Contestants had maybe two seconds to tell the truth, usually by answering a trivia question or groaner of a joke, before getting a raspberry from Buelah the Buzzer and suffering the consequences, usually be performing some wacky and embarassing stunt. (Reportedly, contestants often missed the question deliberately in order to do the stunt) The show often softened the blow by reuniting contestants, especially military personnel, with family members on-air. (As a side note, Hot Springs, New Mexico renamed itself Truth or Consequences in 1950, after radio show host Ralph Edwards said that he would broadcast the show from the first town to change its name to the show's name)Lightly toned and creased. Receipt has carbon copy marks. Otherwise in fine condition.
