Kay Amsterdam, wife of comedian Morey Amsterdam for over 50 years, wrote this letter to comedienne Phyllis Diller on her husband's personalized stationery and signed it for him in 1984. It thanked Diller for "a lovely evening" and includes a small printed b/w magazine photo of Diller.
Autograph Letter signed (by her): "Kay & Morey/A". 1 page, 8½x10¾, on Morey Amsterdam's personalized letterhead. Beverly Hills, California, Nov. 6, 1984. B/w 2½x3½ photo of Phyllis Diller stapled in bottom right corner. In full: "Dear Phyllis - This was in U.S. Magazine. Thanks for a lovely evening. Your [sic] always such a nice hostess. Have a great trip. Love,". PHYLLISDILLER, born Phyllis Ada Driver in Lima, Ohio in 1917, is known for her outrageous appearance, zany outfits, distinctive laugh and a stand-up act that featured frequent references to her fictional husband "Fang" and zingers about her sex appeal and numerous plastic surgeries. KAY PATRICK AMSTERDAM was married to Morey from 1942 until his death. They had two children. MOREY AMSTERDAM (1908-1996), born in Chicago, Illinois, was a comedian and actor best known for his role as Buddy Sorrell on The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-1966), which earned him an Emmy nomination in 1966. A vaudeville veteran who had earlier starred on radio and television and in films, he gained a new generation of fans with his villainous role on the CBS soap The Young and the Restless while he was in his 80s. Lightly toned and creased. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
