Kay Patrick Amsterdam, wife of comedian Morey Amsterdam, wrote this
post card from Charlotte Amalie in the U. S. Virgin Islands to comedienne
Phyllis Diller from Atlantic City in 1980 and signed it for her husband.
Autograph note signed "Kay & Morey/AMSTERDAM" in blue ink.
7¼x4½ color post card from the cruise ship S. S. Norway. Postmarked
Charlotte Amalie, U. S. Virgin Islands, July 9, 1980. Addressed in Kay's
hand to Phyllis Diller, Los Angeles, California. Two American stamps affixed.
In full: "Again they gave us the same suite you had -Just can't find
the coffee not with the plant in it. We'll be home about the 15th & will
give you're a call. We're fine - hope you are,too- Love". PHYLLISDILLER, born Phyllis Ada Driver in Lima, Ohio in 1917, is known
for her outrageous appearance, zany outfits, distinctive laugh and a stand-up
act that featured frequent references to her fictional husband "Fang" and
zingers about her sex appeal and numerous plastic surgeries. KAY PATRICK
AMSTERDAM was married to Emmy-nominated actor and comedian Morey
Amsterdam from 1942 until his death. They had two children. MOREY
AMSTERDAM (1908-1996), born in Chicago, Illinois, was a comedian and
actor best known for his role as Buddy Sorrell on The Dick Van Dyke
Show (1961-1966), which earned him an Emmy nomination in 1966. A
vaudeville veteran who had earlier starred on radio and television and in films,
he gained a new generation of fans with his villainous role on the CBS soap
The Young and the Restless while he was in his 80s. Normal postal
stamps. Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Signature is slightly shaky but
legible. Lightly worn corners with lightly creased bottom right corner and light
chipping in top right corner. Lightly scuffed and scratched on verso. Otherwise
in fine condition.
