KAY STARR
Starr writes a brief thank-you letter to a fan!
Autograph Letter Signed: "Kay Starr". 1p. 8½x11, personal letterhead. Encino, California,
no date, to Mr. Miller. In full: "Dear Mr. Miller What a very nice thing to do - you and
your small staff must feel wonderful about yourselves Thank you for allowing me to be a
small part of it-". American jazz singer Kay Starr (1922-2016) began her career at age 7
on the radio in Dallas: at age 10 she made $3.00 a day on her own 15-minute program! At
age 15 she earned her first band contract with the Joe Venuti Orchestra. She later sang with
Bob Crosby and Glenn Miller, the latter of whom she made her first recordings with. In 1949
she got her first top 10 hit with "So Tired". Starr released dozens of carting singles over
the next 25 years, including "Hoop-de-Doo" (1950), "Side by Side" (1953), and "My
Heart Reminds Me" (1957). Two singles reached the #1 spot: "Wheel of Fortune"
(1952) and "The Rock and Roll Waltz" (1956). Starr continued to tour and record into the
1970s. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
