KEN GRIFFEY, SR
The Cincinnati Reds All-Star and Two-Time World Series Champion shown poised at the plate
Photograph signed: "Ken Griffey". Color, 8x10. Ken Griffey Sr. (b. 1950) established himself as one of the most consistent and versatile outfielders of his era, playing 19 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1973 to 1991. Best known for his key role with the Cincinnati Reds during the height of the "Big Red Machine," Griffey was a dependable contact hitter, a smart baserunner, and a steady defensive presence in the outfield. Griffey broke into the majors with Cincinnati in 1973 and quickly became an integral part of a powerhouse lineup that included stars such as Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and Pete Rose. He played a significant role in back-to-back World Series championships in 1975 and 1976. During the 1976 World Series, Griffey batted .385 as Cincinnati swept the New York Yankees. Over his career, Griffey compiled a .296 batting average, collecting 2,143 hits, 152 home runs, and 859 runs batted in. While not a power hitter, he was known for his ability to get on base, recording over 200 stolen bases and scoring more than 1,100 runs. His best individual season came in 1976, when he hit .336. After his initial run with Cincinnati, Griffey played for the New York Yankees and later had stints with the Atlanta Braves and Seattle Mariners. One of the most notable chapters of Griffey's career was when he shared the field with his son, Ken Griffey Jr., as teammates on the Seattle Mariners, the first father-son duo to play together on the same team. The two made history on September 14, 1990, when they hit back-to-back home runs in a game against the California Angels, becoming the first father-son pair to accomplish that feat in Major League history.Photographer's stamp on verso (no show through).
