KEN PERRONE
The college coach in both football and baseball signed this black and white photograph that features him wearing a Salem High School staff jacket
Autograph Letter Signed: "Sincerely / Ken Perrone". Irregularly cut 11x7. In Part: In enjoyed your letter and your memory of my former Bapst + Brewer teams. Ron Soucie was one of the great ones. He is now a doctor in Bangor and doing very well.Ron Soucie (ca. 1949-2003) was a baseball player for Perrone's baseball teams at John Bapst High School in Bangor, Maine. He was a left-handed pitcher who pitched back-to-back no-hitters for Bapst at one time. Ken Perrone is known throughout the New England region for his coaching prowess in both baseball and football. A two-time Maine All-State second baseman (1957, 1959), Perrone coached 60 seasons of baseball and 37 seasons of football at high schools and colleges in Maine and Massachusetts. He was named Coach of the Year 16 times, Perrone has led his teams to 13 ECAC and two NCAA tournament bids. The head baseball coach for Salem State University from 1983-2012, Perrone also coached frosh football at Lawrence (Maine) High School (1959), Frosh baseball at the University of Maine (1960-1967) and both baseball and football at Dixfield High School (1960-1961), John the Baptist High School (1961-1967) and Brewer High School (1967-1973). Across both sports, Perrone's teams amassed 1,413 wins, 49 conference championships, 6 state high school titles, and 5 state college titles. He was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Salem State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. In 1994, Perrone defied the superintendent's orders to not coach the Salem High school football team during a teacher's strike. This incident was chronicled in No Backing Down(2014), a novel written by Sean Stelatto, Perrone's star quarterback of that undefeated championship season. Irregular cut. Lightly toned on top edge. Mounting remnants on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
