Autograph Letter Signed: "Ken Venturi", 1p, 8½x11. Hillsborough, California, 1960 February 17. On his personal pictorial letterhead to Eddie. In full: "Thank you for your very nice letter and I enjoyed hearing from you very much. I'm happy to hear that things are going o.k. for you now and your collection sounds wonderful. I'm sorry to say I haven't any stamps around the house and never gave much thought to saving any. I hope someday in the near future we have a chance to meet and until then, I remain Sincerely". Ken Venturi (born in 1931), who nearly won the Masters while still an amateur in 1956, is best known for winning the U.S. Open in 1964, making a remarkable comeback after battling both physical problems and a career slump. That year, Venturi won the PGA Player of the Year award, played on the Ryder Cup Team and was named "Sportsman of the Year" by "Sports Illustrated". Forced to retire from the PGA tour at the age of 33 due to severe carpal tunnel syndrome, Venturi was a CBS golf analyst for more than a quarter of the century ("Golf Digest" called him the nation's top golf commentator). Venturi was also honored as the 1998 Ambassador of Golf and was President's Cup Captain in 2000. The writer of a number of instructional articles and books on the sport, he has also established a number of golf academies across the U.S. Lightly creased with folds, light horizontal creases at signature. Fine condition.
