KEN VENTURI
Black and white inscribed publicity photograph of a young Ken Venturi swinging a golf club.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Eddie/With my best Wishes/Sincerely/Ken Venturi". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7½x8¾ (one surface). Promotional photograph. Captioned at lower margin: "Ken Venturi [logo] U.S. Royal Professional Staff". Ken Venturi (born in 1931), who nearly won the Masters while still an amateur in 1956, is best known for winning the U.S. Open in 1964, making a remarkable comeback after battling both physical problems and a career slump. That year, Venturi won the PGA Player of the Year award, played on the Ryder Cup Team and was named "Sportsman of the Year" by "Sports Illustrated". Forced to retire from the PGA tour at the age of 33 due to severe carpal tunnel syndrome, Venturi was a CBS golf analyst for more than a quarter of the century ("Golf Digest" called him the nation's top golf commentator). Venturi was also honored as the 1998 Ambassador of Golf and was President's Cup Captain in 2000. The writer of a number of instructional articles and books on the sport, he has also established a number of golf academies across the U.S. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on), else fine condition.
