KENNY ROGERS AND THE FIRST EDITION: KENNY ROGERS, TERRY WILLIAMS, MICKEY JONES, JIMMY HASSELL and MARY ARNOLD
Note signed by Kenny Rogers in 1974, while he was still a member of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Also signed by the four other members of the band: Terry Williams, Mickey Jones, Jimmy Hassell and Mary Arnold. This note was signed one year before the band broke up.
Autograph note signed "Jimmy/Hassell/1st Edition", "Kenny Rogers/10-11-74", "Come See Me in S.A./Mickey Jones", "Tingle Williams" and "Mary Arnold", all in blue ink. Rogers' autograph note in full: "George! Sorry we didn't get to come by your house! Thanks very much for being so nice - Your friend -". 8 ½ x 4 note mounted to 9 x 6 ¾ album leaf with rounded bottom corners. The signers represent the band's lineup from 1972 until their split in 1975. The country and rock band known as Kenny Rogers and the First Edition was founded as the First Edition in 1967. The founding members were three members of the New Christy Minstrels - KENNY ROGERS on vocals and bass, TERRY WILLIAMS on guitar and vocals and MICKEY JONES on drums and percussion - with Mike Settle on guitars and vocals and Thelma Camacho rounding out the lineup. (Settle was replaced by Kin Vassy in 1969, who was in turn replaced by JIMMY HASSELL in 1972, and Camacho was replaced by MARY ARNOLD in 1968) The group, which changed its name to Kenny Rogers and the First Edition in 1968, released a total of nine albums between 1967 and 1972. Five of their singles broke into the Top 20 and two - 1968's Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) and 1969's Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town - peaked inside the Top 10. Kenny Rogers and the First Edition split in 1975, with Rogers going on to achieve, let's say, an acceptable level of success in the county music genre. Lightly toned and creased. Signatures are lightly haloed but legible. Edges of note are irregular, with light dents along bottom edge. Leaf was torn from album at top edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
