member of the First Edition and the New Christy Minstrels, became a popular country
and pop solo artist with hits including "The Gambler" (1976) and "Lady" (1981). Even
after his record sales declined, Rogers remained a popular celebrity with his concerts, made for
TV movies (beginning with The Gambler, 1980) and chain of roast chicken restaurants.
