KENT DESMOREAUX
Signed color photo of Hall of Fame thoroughbred jockey winning the 1998
Kentucky Derby on Real Quiet. Desmoreaux and Real Quiet came within a nose of
winning the Triple Crown in 1998.
Photograph signed "Kent Desmoreaux/'Real Quiet'". Blue and black ink
notations on verso in unknown hand. This photo appears to have been taken at the
1998 Kentucky Derby. Desmoreaux won the Derby and the Preakness Stakes in
1998 on Real Quiet, missing the Triple Crown when he lost to Victory Gallop at
the Belmont Stakes. Desmoreaux, born in Maurice, Louisiana in 1970, is an
American thoroughbred horse racing jockey who's won the Kentucky Derby thrice
(1998, 2000 and 2003), the Preakness Stakes twice (1998, 2008),
the Breeder's Cup Turf (1993) and the Breeder's Cup Sprint (1995).
He came within a nose of winning the Triple Crown on Real Quiet in 1998,
losing to Victory Gallop at the Belmont Stakes. Desmoreaux also broke
Chris McCarron's record for victories in a year in 1989 with 599 wins, a
record that still stands as of this biography. He ranked second in the United
States in earnings with $13.6 million as of October of 2008, with a 17 percent
win rate and a 47 percent in-the-money rate. He was inducted into the Racing
Hall of Fame in 2004. Lightly bowed, otherwise in fine
condition.
