her 1962 single “Love Letters”. Lester's career in the limelight began at an early age when she
appeared on Groucho Marx's You Bet Your Life singing “You Do Something to Me”.
Soon after recording her very first single “Queen For A Day”, Lester landed a contract with
Era Records, releasing the single “I'm a Fool to Want You”/ “Love Letters” in 1962. The
record ended up selling more than a million copies and reached #2 on the R&B chart and
#4 on the UK Singles Chart. In 1962, she released the album Love Letters, which was
nominated for a Grammy. She also won a Theatre World Award in 1964 for her role in
the off-Broadway show Cabin in the Sky. Her commercial viability as a singer dwindling, in
the early 1970s Lester turned her focus to acting. Lester made appearances in Blacula (1972),
and Little House on the Prairie (1974), among others. Fine condition.
