KIM HUNTER
Seen in this publicity photo for the 1951 film A Streetcar Named Desire, the award-winning actress signs her name and best wishes
Photograph signed: "Best wishes,/Kim Hunter". B/w, 10x8. Shown with Vivien Leigh in publicity photo for the 1951 film, A Streetcar Named Desire. Hunter, who had created the role of Stella Kowalski in the Broadway production of Tennessee Williams' play four years earlier, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for the role in the film version. Captioned at lower margin. Kim Hunter (1922-2002), born Janet Cole, made her film debut in 1943 in The Seventh Victim. Blacklisted during the McCarthy era, she was later the star witness in a trial that discredited the charges, paving the way for dozens of other performers to return to their careers. Later in her career, Hunter concentrated largely on stage and television work, but appeared in the Planet of the Apes films (1968, 1970, 1971) and in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997). She was 79 when she died on September 11, 2002. Ink lightly beaded. Fine condition.
