KING CHARLES X. Manuscript DS: "Charles Philippe", 1p, 10x16. Versailles, 1781 December 23. In French with English translation. In part: "It is ordered to Sieur Antoine Bourdoulon, Treasurer-General of our household, estates and finances, to pay in cash to Sieur de la Roque the sum of two thousand one hundred and sixty-five livres nineteen sols to settle the interest and principle of the sum of 16,113 which has been allotted to him as reimbursement for financing the common mills of Cognac...." Grandson of King Louis XV (1715-1774) and brother of King Louis XVI (1774-1792), he succeeded his brother King Louis XVIII (1814-1815, 1815-1824) as King Charles X of France in 1824. He was overthrown by the revolution of 1830. Fragile. Worn edges which show ¼-inch to 1½-inch vertical tears (all intact, inexpertly repaired with tape on verso). Soiled. Lightly shaded and stained. Folds, not at signature.
