KING GEORGE II
Document signed one month after George II's ascension to Great Britain's throne, continuing pensions started by his father
Document signed "George R." 1 page,8¾x13¾. June 12, 1727. This document continued daily and annual pensions to 21 people, totaling £2800, 5 shillings per year, started by George II's late father George I. This document was signed one month after George I ascended to the throne of Great Britain on June 11, 1727. The second in the Hannoverian line of British monarchs, George II (1683-1760) was king of Great Britain and elector of Hanover from 1727 to 1760. He was the last British king to command troops in the field, a victory over the French at Dettingen in 1743. George II's reign did much to consolidate the practice of constitutional monarchy: a king deferring to a Cabinet responsible to Parliament. He also presided over victories against France in India and North America, and also the defeat at Culloden (1745) of the last Jacobite rebellion (on behalf of the former Stuart rulers). Lightly toned, spotted, stained and creased. Paper has been torn away from document on left edge in four places; tears don't touch the signature. Small hole near left edge. Paper has been folded in 16 and unfolded. Small tears along edges, mostly along folds. Otherwise in fine condition.
