KITTY KALLEN The big band singer is shown standing in a full gown and posing with her hand to her chin Photograph signed: "Kitty Kallen" in blue ink, b/w, 8x10¼. "Pretty" Kitty Kallen (1922-2016), born Genevieve Agostinello, sang with some of the most popular big bands of the 1930s and 1940s, including Artie Shaw (1938), Jack Teagarden (1940), Jimmy Dorsey (1942), and Harry James (from 1943). She also appeared briefly with Bobby Sherwood after her husband, clarinetist Clint Garvin, was fired by Teagarden in an attempt to economize. Best known for her duets with Bob Eberly after she replaced Helen O'Connell in Dorsey's band, Kallen also had a number of hits of her own. (Her popular big band and "torch songs", including "It's Been a Long, Long Time", "Little Things Mean a Lot" and "It Could Happen to You", recorded from October 7, 1943 to May 1964, were released in the 1992 CBS album, The Kitty Kallen Story.) Kallen also appeared in a handful of feature films, including Piano Rhythm (1949, as herself) and The Second Greatest Sex (1955), and she was a regular on Fred Allen's TV show, Judge for Yourself (1953-1954). In addition, she was on several other TV variety shows, including The Colgate Comedy Hour and Toast of the Town. Corners chipped and lightly worn. Gently creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
