Kotch (1971) follows Joseph Kotcher (Matthau), a retired travelling salesman, who after being forced out of his home by his son and daughter-in-law takes a trip out west to discover a new life along the Pacific coast. Lemmon, who directed the film, played a small role as a sleeping bus passenger. A private school-educated everyman who could play outrageous comedy and wrenching tragedy, JACK LEMMON (1925-2001) won the 1955 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role as Ensign Pulver in Mister Roberts and the 1973 Academy Award for Best Actor for portraying garment manufacturer Harry Stoner in Save the Tiger (becoming the first actor to win both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Oscars). Lemmon also received Best Actor Oscar nominations for The Apartment, Days of Wine and Roses, The China Syndrome, Tribute and Missing as well as Some Like It Hot. WALTER MATTHAU (1920-2000) won the 1966 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as lawyer "Whiplash" Willie Gingrich in The Fortune Cookie. He was also nominated for Best Actor Oscars for Kotch and The Sunshine Boys. He co-starred with Jack Lemmon in 11 films, including The Fortune Cookie, two Odd Couple movies, Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
