KRIS KRISTOFFERSON
Black and white publicity still of Kris Kristofferson in his role as Rubber Duck a/k/a Marti Penwald in the movie Convoy.
Photograph signed: "Kris/Kristofferson". B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9¼x6¾ (one surface). Depicted in his role as Rubber Duck a/k/a Marti Penwald in the movie Convoy 1978. Rhodes scholar, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter and actor Kris Kristofferson (born in 1936) first gained fame as a songwriter, penning such hits as "Me and Bobby McGee", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" (a No. 1 hit for Johnny Cash in 1970), "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and "For the Good Times". He would later be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score in 1984 for Songwriter, in which he co-starred with Willie Nelson. Kristofferson began his solo career in 1970 with the release of his debut album, Kristofferson, on which he sang his hits made popular by others; the album would be re-released in 1971 as Me and Bobby McGee, placing in the country Top 10 and the pop Top 100. In 1971, Kristofferson won his first Grammy Award (for Best Country Song) for "Help Me Make It Through the Night". He would win two additional Grammy Awards for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo of Group when he teamed up with his wife (1973-1980), singer Rita Coolidge, for "From the Bottle to the Bottom" (1973) and "Lover Please" (1974). Kristofferson would also find success in a group as part of the Highwaymen (Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson), who released three albums (1985, 1990, 1995). After making his film debut in The Last Movie in 1971, he was also frequently seen on the big screen, appearing in such films as Cisco Pike (1972), Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), A Star is Born (1976, Golden Globe for Best Actor), Semi-Tough (1977), Heaven's Gate (1980) and Where the Red Fern Grows (2003) as well as the three Blade films. He has also appeared in a long list of made-for-TV movies. Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
