Original Art inscribed and signed: "To/Charles/&/Pat/Searle/with/many thanks/and all/best wishes!/L. D. Warren", "Walter C. Langsam". Both have signed below a spectacled self-caricature titled (by Warren): "L. D./Oct 77". Drawn on the flyleaf of the book The World and Warren's Cartoons, 302 pages, 6½x9½. Hicksville, N.Y: Exposition Press., 1977. Hardcover. LEONARD "L. D." WARREN (1906-1992) was a sports and editorial cartoonist for the Philadelphia Record, and creator of the Penny Penguin cartoon strip for Gulf Oil, before becoming editorial cartoonist for the Cincinnati Enquirer in 1947. His thrice Reuben=nominated cartoons were also distributed by the McNaught Syndicate from 1951 to 1974. Exhibitions of Warren's cartoons were held at New York's Museum of Modern Art, and in London's National Portrait Gallery. Historian WALTER CONSUELO LANGSAM was President of Wagner College (1945-1952), Gettysburg College (1952-1955), and the University of Cincinnati (1955-1971). He was the author of 15 books, including this one, and also The World Since 1914 (1933), a textbook which ran through 8 editions. Fine condition.
