In full: "January 10, 1991/Mr. W. Ernst Minor/7655 De Mar Road/Cincinnati, OH 45243/Dear Ernie,/Many thanks for your letter recommending Karen Kelley. It/won't be appropriate for me to make personnel decisions until/after I see whether the Senate confirms me. But, I'll keep your/letter in mind. Very best wishes./Sincerely,/Lamar Alexander/LA/jp." Alexander was governor of Tennessee from 1979 to1987, federal Secretary of Education from 1991 to 1993 and was elected a Senator from Tennessee in 2002, replacing actor and 2008 presidential candidate Fred Thompson, who retired from the seat. Alexander was still senator when this biography was written. He tried, unsuccessfully, to be named the Republican presidential candidate in 1996 and 2000. Alexander was also president of the University of Tennessee from 1988 until his appointment as Secretary of Education in 1991. Page has been folded in three and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
