LANCE ARMSTRONG
Color 8x10 photo of Lance Armstrong cycling during a race
Photograph signed: "Lance Armstrong", Color 8x10. Professional cyclist Lance Armstrong (b. 1971) won the sport's most prestigious and grueling race, the Tour de France, an unprecedented 7 times, seven consecutive times (1999-2005). And he did it after fighting metastasized testicular cancer which had required extensive chemotherapy and brain surgery. Armstrong retired in 2005, but returned to the circuit in 2009, placing third in the Tour de France. As of 2010, he races with Team Radio Shack. He has been repeatedly accused of using performance enhancing drugs, charges Armstrong denies, noting that he has been the most frequently tested athlete in the world. His supporters credit his phenomenal lung and heart capacity, and of course his courage. ESPN named him Male Athlete of the Year four consecutive times (2003-2006). The Lance Armstrong Foundation, created in 1997, funds cancer research and support for survivors, and Armstrong is dedicated to this cause. Armstrong announced his second Retirement on February 16, 2011 after failing to make a comeback that lived up to his years on top of the competitive cycling world. Fine condition.
