LANNY WADKINS
Golfer Lanny Wadkins wrote this letter to say what kinds of holes give him the most problems, adding "I'm usually looking for positive not negative."
Auttograph letters signed "Lanny Wadkins" in blue ink.1 page, 9¼x4 card from Lanny Wadkin's personalized stationery. Dec. 4, 1989. In full: "Mr. Stanhope - Nice question - and it has puzzled me. While no hole stands out usually the holes that bother me either don't set up or line up good from the tee or the tees are extremely elevated. Sorry I haven't got a better answer for you but I'm usually looking for positive not negative. All the best Sincerely". Wadkins, born Jerry Lanston Wadkins in Richmond, Virginia in 1949, is an American golfer. Even before Wadkins went pro in 1971, he'd compiled an impressive list of victories and honors, winning the Southern Amateur (1968, 1970), the Eastern Amateur (1969, 1970) and the U. S. Amateur (1970) and being named an NCAA All-American twice (1970, 1971). Known for his competitiveness and iron work on the course, Wadkins has won 30 professional tournaments, including the 1977 PGA Championship. He also played on the Ryder Cup's American team eight times between 1977 and 1993, winning five times, and was captain in 1995. Lightly creased. Handwriting, but not signature, is lightly smeared but legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
