Promissory note signed: "Laraine Durocher", 1 page, 8½x4. Beverly Hills, California, 1955 November 23. Promise to pay Maury Bergman of 250 Fifth Avenue, New York, N.Y. the sum of $4,148.06. Asterisks are typed through the spaces for interest rate and interest owed, and no payment date is stipulated. However, the borrower is to pay "reasonable attorney's fees in the event any default occurs." The note is marked "Paid!"Laraine Day (1917-2007) reached stardom as Nurse Lamont opposite Lew Ayres in a series of six Dr. Kildare films (1939-1942). Other starring roles for Day included Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent (1940), The Story of Dr. Wassell (1944), My Dear Secretary (1948) and The High and the Mighty (1954). She was married to baseball manager Leo Durocherfrom 1947-1960 and hosted a New York TV program in 1951, My Day With the Giants. This promissory note was acquired from Laraine Day's estate. Multiple folds. Lightly creased. Corners creased. Red pencil marks (unknown hand). Fine condition.
