LARRY ADLER
Adler signed this small card, with a small clipped etching of him playing the harmonica, with "Best wishes" in blue ink. Accompanied by short William Morris biography.
Autograph Note signed: "To Kayo/Best Wishes/Larry Adler" in blue ink.4¼x2¾ card. With clipped b/w printed etching of Adler playing the harmonica in upper left corner. Adler (1914-2001, born Lawrence Cecil Adler in Baltimore, Maryland) was widely acknowledged as the world's best harmonica player and brought new credibility to the instrument. Starting humbly in vaudeville, Adler moved on to movie roles, beginning with Many Happy Returns (1934). He entertained troops during World War II. Adler performed works by Bach and Vivaldi and even inspired works to be written for his instrument by major composers, Vaughan Williams and others. On his 80th birthday, he released an album of songs by George Gershwin. Adler was unfairly blacklisted in the US during the McCarthy era, but attracted a large following in Europe. Reportedly, his fan club numbered 300,000 members! Lightly toned. Otherwise fine condition.
