Sports Card signed: Larry Biittner". Color, 2½x3½. Captioned: "Larry Biittner/Outfield Expos."
Card no. 238. © 1976 Topps Chewing Gum, Inc. Major League batting record through 1975
on verso. Larry Biittner (1945-2022) played fourteen Major League seasons with five
different teams, finishing twelfth all time in pinch-hits (95). He played in the outfield for
the Washington Senators and Texas Rangers (1970-1973) and the Chicago Cubs
(1976-1980), among a few other teams. His best season was probably 1977: he batted .298
in a career-high 532 plate appearances. That same season, he was pressed into pitching in
a losing blowout by manager Herman Franks. He had pitched at the minor league level as
an experiment earlier that season. Biittner pitched poorly, but the game was already lost by the
time he took the mound. Fine condition.
