LARRY BLOCK
Actor sends John Willis, editor of Theatre World, and updated resume and photograph for the next volume
Autograph letter signed: "Larry Block" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x11. October 8, 1981. In full: "Dear John, Sorry to be so tardy with the picture you asked for, but here it is in all its glory [not included]. I am honored to be included in your volumes and always look forward to the New Year's edition. I've enclosed my current resume, just in case it might be useful. Thanks again". Actor Larry Block (1942-2012) is an actor of the stage and screen; he performed in numerous off-Broadway shows including The Comedy of Errors (1975), Two Gentlemen of Verona (1987), and 2½ Jews (1999), and made his Broadway debut in the production of Hail Scrawdyke! (1966). Block is remembered for appearing on Sesame Street (1971), and in the movies Slap Shot (1977) and Don't Say a Word (2001). He also had a regular spot on Joe Frank's radio program Work in Progress on KCRW. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Heavily toned. Edges and corners heavily worn. Surface creases throughout. Staple punctures in top left corner. Light tearing on edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
