Larry Holmes and Leon Spinks sign a program for the World Heavyweight Championship (WBC) between "Undefeated World Champion Larry Holmes" and "Former World Champion Leon Spinks".
Program signed: "Larry Holmes/Peace/81" and "Leon/Spinks" on front cover, 12p, 5½x8¼. Detroit, Michigan, 1981 June 12. Program for the World Heavyweight Championship (WBC) between "Undefeated World Champion Larry Holmes" and "Former World Champion Leon Spinks". The fight, held at the Joe Louis Arena was billed as "A Tribute to Joe Louis", and the World Superlight Championship (WBC) and two 10-round heavyweight bouts were also featured on the program. Two-page tribute to Joe Louis at center spread, one-page biographical sketches and photographs of Holmes and Spinks on pages 4 and 5. In this fight, Holmes beat Spinks with a TKO in the third round to retain his WBC Heavyweight title. Boxer LARRY HOLMES was heavyweight champion (WBC or IBF) from 1978-1985. He successfully defended his title 20 times before losing to Michael Spinks. Holmes returned from his first retirement in 1988 and was KO'd in the 4th round by champ Mike Tyson. He launched a second comeback in 1991 and fought and lost title bids against Evander Holyfield in 1992 and Oliver McCall in 1995. Holmes beat Eric "Butterbean" Esch in a one-fight comeback in 2002. He has a pro record of 69-6 , with 44 KOs. LEON SPINKS won a gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1976 Olympics. He won the heavyweight crown in a split decision over Muhammad Ali on February 15, 1978. Ali regained the title seven months later. Spinks' brother, Michael, won the heavyweight title in 1983. They are the only brothers to hold world titles. Lightly creased. Covers slightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
