overall, 6x7½ image (one surface). Larry Speakes (1939-2014) was press
secretary for US Senator James Eastland (1968-1972). Joining the Nixon White
House as a press assistant during the Watergate Crisis, he became Assistant
Press Secretary for President Ford, and handled press briefings for Vice
Presidential candidate Robert Dole in 1976. After working for a private public
relations firm during the Democratic administration of President Carter, he
became Deputy Press Secretary to Ronald Reagan in 1981. Press Secretary James
Brady, seriously wounded in the 1981 assassination attempt on President Reagan,
retained his title, but Speakes held the daily White House press briefings
through 1987, when he left the post. Ink stamp on verso. Fine condition.
