LA TOYA JACKSON
Her book, Starting Over, signed on the title page
Book signed: "La Toya/Jackson", 6½x9½, 341 pages.. Starting Over, by La Toya Jackson, with Jeffre Phillips. New York: Gallery Books, 2011. Hardcover and Dust Jacket. La Toya Jackson, the fifth of the nine Jackson children, born in 1956, performed on the family's TV show (1976-1977), and emerged as a popular solo singer/songwriter in the 1980s. Her 1984 album, Heart Don't Lie, and the single of that title, were her first big hits. By late in that decade, she was developing a sex symbol image; her nude appearance in Playboy (March 1989) was the best-selling edition of that magazine ever. In the 1990s, her career seriously faltered under the influence of a sinister manager, Jack Gordon, who coerced Jackson into marriage, physically abused her, and pushed her into making accusatory statements about her parents and brother Michael which she later acknowledged were false. Fleeing Gordon in 1992, she reconciled with her family and began to rebuild her career. Starting Over, and a new record album released shortly thereafter, is part of that effort. Fine condition.
