and women's historian Laurel Thatcher Ulrich (b.1938) coined the popular
phrase "Well-behaved women seldom make history." The phrase, which has
appeared everywhere from novels to T-shirts, gained so much notoriety Ulrich
decided to make it the title her of 2008 book. Women Seldom Make
History examines women whose "bad behavior" affected the
entire globe, including Rosa Parks and Virginia Woolf. Ulrich first earned
national fame for her Pulitzer Prize winning book A Midwife's
Tale, winning the Bancroft Prize, The John H. Dunning Prize, and the
Joan Kelly Memorial Prize among a half dozen others. Fine
