LAURENCE OLIVIER, CO-SIGNED BY: PRUDENCE HYMAN, MURIEL GEORGE, GEOFFREY NARES
Yellow album leaf signed by four stars of the English stage, including Oscar winner Laurence Olivier.
Signatures: "Prudence Hyman/1936" by Hyman in black ink, "Laurence Olivier" by Olivier in green ink and, on verso, "Good wishes/Muriel George" by George in red ink and "Geoffrey Nares" by Nares in red ink, plus one unidentified signature in black ink. 5½x3¾. OLIVIER (1907-1989, born in Dorking, Surrey, England) was a British stage and film actor. He got his start on the English stage, with successes in Shakespearean roles at London's Old Vic and elsewhere. Olivier was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in Wuthering Heights (1939), Henry V (1946), Richard III (1956), The Entertainer (1960), Sleuth (1972) and The Boys from Brazil (1978), for Best Supporting Actor in Marathon Man (1976) and for Best Director for Hamlet, for which he also won the 1948 Best Actor Oscar. He was knighted in 1947 and made a life peer in 1970 as Baron Olivier, the first actor to receive a life peerage. GEORGE (1883-1965, born in London, England) was an English actress with 60 movie and TV credits. Among her credits are some of the earliest TV shows ever broadcast, including When We Are Married (1938) and The Monkey's Paw (1939). HYMAN (1914-1995, born in London, England) was an English ballerina who became an actress in stage musicals during World War II. She also has several movie credits between 1949 and 1966, many of them with English horror studio Hammer Film Productions. Horror fans probably know her best in the title role of Hammer's 1966 movie The Gorgon. NARES (1917-1942) was an actor of the English and Broadway stage and younger brother of actor Owen Nares. He died of a brain tumor in Cairo, Egypt after enlisting with the 12th Royal Lancers. Lightly toned and rippled. Ink transference from other pages on one side, which touches Olivier's signature. Pen skipped on Olivier's signature. Page has been neatly torn from album or pad on left side. Otherwise in fine condition.
