film, Hamlet, for which Olivier won the Best Actor Academy Award for his
portrayal of the title character and was nominated for the Best Director Oscar.
Hamlet, in which Olivier did all his own stunts, won the
Academy Award for Best Picture and also won Oscars for Best Black
and White Art Direction and Best Black and White Costume Design and was
nominated for an Academy Award for Best Drama or Comedy Score.
Considered by many to be the greatest Shakespearean actor of the twentieth
century, Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) debuted in Julius Caesar
at age nine. He was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor for
Wuthering Heights (1939), Henry V (1946), Richard III
(1956), The Entertainer (1960), Sleuth (1972) and The Boys from
Brazil (1978) and for Best Supporting Actor for Marathon Man
(1976) in addition to winning the 1948 Oscar for Best Actor and
nomination for Best Director for Hamlet. Slightly soiled at blank
margins. Defects from original negative have reproduced at background. Pencil
note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Fine
condition.
