LAURENCE OLIVIER and S.G. ENGEL. Signatures: "L Olivier" and, on verso, "To Mary,/Hope you'll/always be/'Sitting Pretty'/S.G. Engel", 7x5½ album leaf. Likely circa 1948 or 1949. British actor Sir LAURENCE OLIVIER (1907-1989) was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor for Wuthering Heights (1939), Henry V (1946), Richard III (1956), The Entertainer (1960), Sleuth (1972) and The Boys from Brazil (1978), for Best Supporting Actor for Marathon Man (1976) and for Best Director for Hamlet, for which he won the 1948 Best Actor Oscar. SAMUEL GAMLIEL ENGEL (1904-1984) was a Hollywood producer and screenwriter, who produced Sitting Pretty in 1948. Engel's other production credits include My Darling Clementine (1946, for which he also wrote the screenplay), Mr. Belvedere Goes to College (1949), Red Skies of Montana (1952), A Man Called Peter (1955) and Boy on a Dolphin (1957). Also the writer of a number of screenplays from 1934 (The Big Shakedown) through 1946, Engel was working at Warner Bros. when Darryl F. Zanuck left to form his own studio. Its new name, 20th Century Pictures, was Engel's idea. Torn at blank right edge from removal from bound book, else fine condition.
