LAURIE LEE
The classic English author writes letter to an admirer, giving her a little more information about himself for her school paper, signs name in blue ink
Autograph letter signed: "Laurie Lee" in blue felt tip. 1 page, 7x4½. April 22, 1977. Slad Village, Stroud, Gloucestershire, England. Written on personal letterhead. In full: "Dear Miss Tina, I'm most interested to hear that you're planning a 3000 Project on Henry Moon, J.B. Priestley & myself. I hope you treat us fair and that we get 1000 words each. All I can tell you about the other two is that they have both turned down Knighthoods (I have not been asked, but then I'm a bit younger than they are). I like long legs, summer evenings and I dislike commercial television, commercial radio and anything made of plastic. Good luck". English poet, novelist and screenwriter Laurie Lee (1914-1997) is best known for his famous trilogy which consisted of the autobiographical books Cider with Rosie (1959), As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning (1969), and A Moment of War (1991); the books recount his childhood in the Slad Valley, his move to London, visit to Spain in 1935, and his return to Spain in 1937 to join the Republican International Brigades. His poem volumes include "The Sun My Monument" (1940), "The Bloom of Candles" (1947), and "My Many-coated Man" (1955); Lee furthermore wrote the plays The Voyage of Magellan (1948) and Peasants' Priest (1947). His book Cider with Rosie has twice been made into a television movie. Toned. Staple punctures in upper left corner. Light surface creases. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
