Program inscribed and signed: "To John Benevento/from/his friend Lauritz Melchior", 16 pages, 8¾x11¾. Souvenir program for The Lauritz Melchior Show circa 1953. Signed on cover. Program includes 10 b/w photos of other cast members and nearly 50 b/w photos of Melchior, arranged on thematic pages covering phases of his life (childhood, early operatics, late operatics, hunting (a lifelong enthusiasm), movies, personalities and home life. Pictures include Melchior in most of his best known operatic roles, and with many entertainment celebrities. Originally a baritone and later an heroic tenor, noted thereafter for his Wagnerian roles. Melchior (1890-1973) made his major opera debut with the Copenhagen Royal Opera in 1913. He was the first operatic tenor to sing on radio, appearing in comedy and variety programs as well as operas. A frequent performer at New York's Metropolitan Opera from 1926 until his retirement from the opera stage in 1950, and continued to appear in films and radio and in touring performances. Slightly worn at edges. Some pages slightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
