AHRENS sketched many popular musical talents of the 1940s, including Skitch Henderson, Ted Lewis and Kate Smith, then invited them to autograph her art. Originally a baritone and later a heroic tenor, noted thereafter for his Wagnerian roles, LAURITZ MELCHIOR (1890-1973) made his major opera debut with the Copenhagen Royal Opera in 1913. He was the first operatic tenor to sing on radio, appearing in comedy and variety programs as well as operas. A frequent performer at New York's Metropolitan Opera from 1926 until his retirement from the opera stage in 1950, and continued to appear in films and radio and in touring performances. KLEINCHEN MELCHIOR, Lauritz Melchior's second wife (1925-1963), was also his business manager for most of his career. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Tears in top and bottom edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
