LAVERNE and SHIRLEY TV CAST: PENNY MARSHALL and CINDY WILLIAMS
Color publicity photograph shown in their roles on Laverne and Shirley!
Photograph signed: "Penny/Marshall" (Laverne DeFazio) and "Cindy Williams/(Shirley Feeney)". Color, 8x10. A Happy Days spin off, Laverne and Shirley was televised on ABC from January 1976 to May 1983. It was the second most watched show in its first two seasons, rose to number one in the 1977-1978 season and was back to number two in 1978-1979. After a big drop in its fifth season, Laverne and Shirley left its Milwaukee locale for California. In its seven and a half years, 178 episodes were filmed. Marshall (1943-2018) successfully made the transition from popular comic actress to a respected director and producer of popular mainstream feature films. She is best known to television viewers for her portrayal of LaVerne DeFazio in the popular sitcom, Laverne and Shirley (1978-1983). Marshall, who had previously appeared on other TV sitcoms and in feature films, then turned to directing. She established herself as a respectable big-league filmmaker with credits including Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986), Big (1988), Awakenings (1990, which received three Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture) and A League of Their Own (1992). Williams (b. 1947) was a hit in the films American Graffiti (1973) and The Conversation (1974), after which she co-starred as Shirley Feeney in the popular TV sitcom Laverne and Shirley (1976-1983), first or second in the ratings in each of its first four seasons. She co-produced the Father of the Bride films (1991, 1995). Fine condition.
