Actress/director PENNY MARSHALL starred as Laverne DeFazio and CINDY WILLIAMS co-starred as Shirley Feeney, in Laverne and Shirley, a spinoff of Happy Days, that was televised on ABC from January 1976 to May 1983. It was the second most watched show in its first two seasons, rose to number one in the 1977-1978 season and was back to number two in 1978-1979. MICHAEL McKEAN and DAVID LANDER played goofy roommates living in the upstairs apartment. After a big drop in its fifth season, Laverne and Shirley left its Milwaukee locale for California. In its seven and a half years, 178 episodes were filmed. Marshall (1943-2018) moved on to directing, gaining an Oscar nomination for A League of Their Own (1992). Williams, who had played Ron Howard's girl friend in American Graffiti (1973), has pursued a stage career since leaving Laverne and Shirley, appearing in several national tours and made her Broadway debut in the Tony-winning The Drowsy Chaperone (2007). McKean (b. 1947) has been a frequent TV guest star, and appeared in such films as Used Carsn and Earth Girls are Easy. A composer and guitarist, he appeared in the rock/folk music spoofs This is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind, writing songs for the latter as well. Lander (b. 1947) has made many spot appearances on film and television. A baseball scout, he is also part owner of the Portland Beavers. A spokesman for multiple sclerosis, he wrote an account of his own battle titled Fall Down Laughing: How Squiggy Caught Multiple Sclerosis and Didn't Tell Nobody. Minor smear at "C" in "Cindy" still legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
