The crime-writer, who was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers
of America, pens a short note on a page fragment from one of his novels
Autograph Note signed: "To Joe -/Happy Birthday -/Lawrence
Block", 4¾x3. Signed beneath his printed name on a fragment of a page from
his book, Hope to Die: a Matthew Scudder Novel. Partial publication
information printed on verso. Mystery writer Lawrence Block (b. 1938)
has published over forty novels, earning many honors including three Edgars and
status as a Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America. He has also
published books on the craft of writing, including Telling Lies for Fun and
Profit (1981). Matthew Scudder is one of Block's protagonists, an alcoholic
ex-cop who still prowls New York's underside doing favors for friends. Hope
to Die was published in 2001. Irregularly cut. Fine
condition.
