LAWRENCE SANDERS. Typescript signed: "Lawrence Sanders", 1p, 8½x11. Headed: "McNally's Surprise/By/Lawrence Sanders". The opening lines of his 1992 novel, which introduced investigator Archie McNally. McNally, who ferreted out the secrets of moneyed Palm Beach society, was featured in six additional books through 1997. Lawrence Sanders (1920-1998) became known as "The Robin Leach of the Detective Novel" for his novels featuring technology, sex and the lifestyles of the rich and famous. A journalist for over 20 years, he submitted articles to such magazines as "Mechanics Illustrated" and "Science and Mechanics" before publishing a series of short stories featuring hardboiled insurance investigator Wolf Lannihan in "Swank" magazine (1968-1969). Sanders got his big break the following year with the publication of The Anderson Tapes (1960), which won the Edgar Award for Best First Mystery Novel and was made into a feature film in 1972. The book featured New York City cop Edward X. Delaney, who appeared in Sanders' four "Deadly Sin" novels (1973, 1977, 1981, 1985). He was played by Frank Sinatra when The First Deadly Sin was released as a feature film in 1980. Sanders was also known for his "Commandment" series, four novels featuring different crime solvers. Slightly creased. Minor impression of writing above signature from Sanders signing another sheet on top of this one. Fine condition.
