LAWRENCE SANDERS
The author signs a typescript with the opening lines of his 1985 novel The Fourth Deadly Sin
Typescript signed: "Lawrence Sanders", 1p, 8½x11. Headed: "The Fourth Deadly Sin/By/Lawrence Sanders". The opening lines of his 1985 novel, The Fourth Deadly Sin the last in his "Deadly Sins" series that featured New York City cop, Edward X. Delaney. The series, which began with The First Deadly Sin (1973; film, 1980), also included novels published in 1977 and 1981. Lawrence Sanders (1920-1998) became known as "The Robin Leach of the Detective Novel" for his novels featuring technology, sex and the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Sanders got his big break the following year with the publication of The Anderson Tapes (1960), which won the Edgar Award for Best First Mystery Novel and was made into a feature film in 1972 (Delaney was introduced in this novel). Another of Sanders' major characters was Archibald McNally, who appeared in seven novels from 1992-1997, and Sanders was also known for his "Commandment" series, four novels featuring different crime solvers.
