B/w bust photo of baritone Lawrence Tibbett. Signed "most sincerely"
in 1951, one year after he left the Metropolitan Opera.
Inscribed photograph signed "To/Harold Brocklebank/most sincerely/Lawrence
Tibbett/1951" in blue ink. B/w sepia-toned, 8x10 overall, 7¼x9¼ image, one
surface, printed on cardstock. Tibbett signed this photo one year after his
final performance at the Metropolitan Opera as Ivan Khovansky in
Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina. His 1951 credits include a
performance in the TV anthology Armstrong Circle Theatre. Tibbett
(1896-1960) was the principal baritone singer of Italian roles with the
Metropolitan Opera (1923-1950). He also performed on radio and appeared in
six films of the 1930s. His first film, The Rogue Song (1930),
earned him an Oscar nomination as Best Actor. Lightly toned, silvered,
cracked, creased, bowed and rippled. Signature is smeared but legible. Tape
residue in top right corner (does not touch signature) Mounting and adhesive
residue on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine
condition.
