Baritone Lawrence Tibbett signed this typed letter on his personalized stationery in 1942, apologizing for the delay in sending a photograph.
Typed letter signed "Lawrence Tibbett". 1 page, 7¼x10½, on Tibbett's personalized letterhead. March 13, 1942. Addressed to Mr. Ralph Botsford, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In full: "Dear Mr. Botsford: I'm sorry you have had to wait a whole year for a photograph - especially when you were thoughtful enough to send twenty five cents to cover its cost! Under separate cover, I'm forwarding a picture [not included] and hope you will like it. Sincerely,". In 1942, Tibbett performed in La Traviata, Tosca, Aida and a Grand Gala Concert at the Metropolitan Opera. Tibbett (1896-1960) was the principal baritone singer of Italian roles with the Metropolitan Opera (1923-1950). He also performed on radio and appeared in six films of the 1930s. His first film, The Rogue Song (1930), earned him an Oscar nomination as Best Actor. Lightly toned, stained and creased. Show-through from adhesive residue on verso (does not touch signature). Otherwise in fine condition.
