Photograph inscribed and signed: "To/Saul/Leah Ray". B/w, 8x10. Captioned in lower margin. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: March 28, 1938. American singer/actress Leah Ray (1915-1999) was a big band singer with Phil Harris. She played prominent roles in Twentieth Century-Fox musicals of the 1930s, including Sing and Be Happy (1937) and Walking Down Broadway (1938). Ray was married for over 50 years until his death to Sonny Werblin, owner of the New York Jets and builder of the Meadowlands Sports Complex. The couple raced thoroughbred horses, and pursued many philanthropic causes. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Corners worn and creased. Lightly toned around edges. Ink stamp on verso. Otherwise, Fine condition.
