Contract Double signed: "Lee Bowman" and "L.B.", 3
pages 8½x14. New York, N.Y., 1950 October 23. Agreement with the
Management Corporation of America for Bowman's appearance in a TV play on the
Nash Airflyte Theatre, November 16, 1950. Bowman is to be paid $1,500 for
this live performance. Accompanied by attached documentary letter signed
"Lee Bowman", dated 1950 November 13, attesting that Bowman acted
as his own counsel in signing the original contract, and understood its terms,
notwithstanding MCA's suggestion that he seek independent counsel. Stage and
screen Lee Bowman (1914-1979) was often cast as a playboy because of his good
looks and dapper style, but he could play action roles too. He usually
played second leads. Among his best known films were Love Affair
(1939), Bataan (1943) and Smash-Up (1947). He played the title
role in the TV series The Adventures of Ellery Queen (1950-1951). In
1974, Bowman formed Kingstree Media Group to advise politicians and business
leaders on facing the mass media, stressing the "conversational approach" to
the camera. Clients included the Republican Congressional campaign committees
and Bethlehem Steel Corp. On November 16, 1950, fulfilling the terms of this
contract, Bowman co-starred with actress Meg Mundy in a half-hour play titled
"Suppressed Desires." Brass clip and staples at upper left corner. Pencil notes
(unknown hand) at upper margin of letter. Moisture stains below signature of
letter. Horizontal fold creases. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine
